Tom Foley

Recently the students had the pleasure of having typographer Tom Foley visit. Thomas Foley (1983) is a graphic designer, typographer and type designer currently living and working in London.

Thomas graduated from Central Saint Martins in 2009 with an MA in Communication Design and has since worked with Polimekanos, Micha Wiedmann Studio and Atelier Dreibholz. Thomas has carried out lectures and workshops at universities including Central Saint Martins, UWE, Limerick School of Art and Design, Dun Laoghaire Institute, and the University of Santa Clara. Thomas is currently working as a Font Designer at Dalton Maag.

Tom delivered a captivating talk and revealed the tediousness that can be involved with designing a new font, but also the enjoyment in being able to create something so usable.

Tom also ran a workshop with the first year students, to help with their Art and Language module. The students learned a lot about the basics in typography and some new interesting techniques in context.

The lecture was informative and and the students produced some excellent work with the help of Tom.
